One Meal A Day (OMAD) is the free school lunch programme of Project Nourish, an initiative of RuffyEdwards Empowerment Initiative (REEI).
Our goal is simple: no child should have to learn on an empty stomach.
Through OMAD, we provide free, freshly prepared school lunches to children attending public primary schools in underserved communities.
Today, we provide free school meals to over 300 children across three public primary schools in Ibadan, Oyo State, three days every week.
For many of the children we support, the meal they receive at school may be one of the most important meals of their day.
Hunger is more than an empty stomach.
For a child, hunger can mean difficulty concentrating, low energy, poor school attendance and reduced participation in the classroom. In some families experiencing financial hardship, children may even stay away from school because there is simply not enough food available at home.
We believe food and education are closely connected.
By providing children with a free lunch while they are at school, we are helping to remove one of the barriers that can stand between a child and their education. A meal can give a child a reason to come to school, the energy to stay in class and the opportunity to learn.
Our team works directly with participating public primary schools to provide meals to pupils during the school day. Meals are prepared and distributed to the children at no cost to them or their families.
The programme currently operates in three public primary schools in Ibadan:
Through regular school feeding, we are creating a reliable source of nourishment for children while supporting their education and wellbeing.
Since launching the school feeding programme, we have seen how something as simple as providing lunch can make a meaningful difference.
Teachers and schools have reported improvements in attendance, with children increasingly looking forward to coming to school on feeding days.
Today:
And this is only the beginning. Our vision is to increase feeding from three days to five days every school week and gradually introduce the programme into more public primary schools and underserved communities.
Our long-term vision is to build a sustainable school feeding programme capable of reaching thousands of children across underserved communities.
We want to expand OMAD to more public primary schools and ultimately provide meals five days a week throughout the school year.
We believe that a child’s ability to learn should never be determined by whether their family can afford to provide lunch.
Through Food for Education, we are working towards classrooms where children can concentrate on learning rather than hunger.
One Meal A Day is made possible through the generosity of individuals, organisations, corporate partners and members of our community who believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.

No contribution is too small. Every meal represents nourishment, dignity, encouragement and another opportunity for a child to remain in the classroom.
